Description:
Abstract:
A priority of the Canadian Forest Service and Canadian Space Agency joint project, Earth Observation for Sustainable Development of Forests (EOSD) is the production of a land cover map of the forested area of Canada. The land cover map will be based on Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM+) data and represent circa year 2000 conditions. Land cover will be produced through a partnership of federal, provincial, and territorial governments, universities and industry. Products generated will follow the 1:250,000 National Topographic Series Map Sheet tiles and naming convention. The land cover products are expected to be completed by early 2006.
Purpose: Land Cover Mapping of Canada
Supplemental_Information:
Minimal Mapping Unit (MMU) is 1 hectare.

Classification scheme: Index or Pixel Value = EOSD Class - EOSD Definition.

The following is a list of classes and digital values in the accompanying tiff file.

40 = Bryoids: Bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) and lichen (foliose or fruticose; not crustose);
     minimum of 20% ground cover or one-third of total vegetation must be a bryophyte or lichen.

     aquatic processes; the majority of vegetation is coniferous, broadleaf, or mixed wood.
82 = Wetland-Shrub: Land with a water table near/at/above soil surface for enough time to promote wetland or
     aquatic processes; the majority of vegetation is tall, low, or a mixture of tall and low shrub.
